“How Emotional Intelligence Makes You A Better Lawyer.” American Bar Association, Oct. 2017,  www.americanbar.org/news/abanews/publications/youraba/2017/october-2017/how-successful-lawyers-use-emotional-intelligence-to-their-advan.html.

For my research, my essential question relates to emotional intelligence and its effects on lawyers. This article goes through a detailed explanation of emotional intelligence. The article goes into specifics through an interview with Ronda Muir, author of “Beyond Smart: Lawyering with Emotional Intelligence”. Some of these specifics include how lawyers that are emotionally intelligent make more money. The article also includes the downside of practicing law with emotions driving you. One of the quotes I plan to use for my research is: "Studies show that the emotionally intelligent out-perform in production and revenues their less emotionally intelligent colleagues, and then, logically, they also get the most promotions and bonuses". Another quote is: "emotionally intelligent lawyers communicate better". With these quotes I will be able to show the correlation between emotional intelligence and the law field. This source is credible because it is from the American Bar Association. The article includes an interview with Ronda Muir, an author that wrote about lawyers and emotional intelligence, and the founder of Law People Management LLC.  This makes her someone with a strong background in understanding emotional intelligence and the role it plays for lawyers. I will use this article to show how lawyers are affected by emotional intelligence and to see if emotions help or hurt them when it comes to representing their clients. This article clearly addresses my essential question making it a valuable source for my research and presentation.

“Summary.” U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 13 Apr. 2018, www.bls.gov/ooh/legal/lawyers.htm.

This source explains everything there is to know about lawyers. The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics splits their information into 8 sections. The sections are Summary, What They Do, Work Environment, How to Become One, Pay, Job Outlook, State & Area Data, Similar Occupations. Each section provides the information as it is titled. For example, the “What They Do” section gives information on the many things a lawyer does and the type of lawyers there are. The section that holds the most useful information is the “How to Become One”. Here the source explains the process of education and experience that goes into becoming a lawyer and also important qualities a good lawyer portrays. This source is a government website making it valid and reliable. It is published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, a federal agency “responsible for measuring labor market activity, working conditions, and price changes in the economy”. Everything on this source is very well documented. This source has helped me understand everything that I need to know as a person who is interested in the law field. The source has also helped give me an idea on how to start this research and what things I should specifically look into. I can use this source in my research project to have a better understanding myself about the lawyer field.
